What you need for Switzerland
Moving to Switzerland isn’t rocket science, but there are a few things you have to sort out yourself. Here’s what to expect.
Permit
With an EU or EFTA passport you don’t need a visa. Once you have an employment contract, you register with the municipality and receive your residence permit.
Registering with the municipality
Within 14 days of arriving, you register where you live. You need your passport, the employment contract and an address.
Housing
Finding a flat of your own takes time. Many start with a room close to the site. On portals like www.wochenzimmer.ch you can often find cheap rooms by the week.
Health insurance
Health insurance is mandatory and you pay it yourself. After registering, you have three months to take out a policy.
You don’t have to file your taxes yourself. As an employee, withholding tax is deducted directly from your wages.
